THE ESTATE OF GENERAL IDEA GI Photographs_FINAL | Page 13
This self-portrait was taken by Jorge Zontal at Art Metropole, an artist archive and resource center founded
in 1974 by General Idea in Toronto. For the photograph, Zontal positioned himself between two articulated
mirrors, creating a never-ending series of reflections. The mirrors had been created by the group three years
before for what became the Light On project. On the right side of the photograph, a large hand painting by
Felix Partz is hung on the wall. Produced at the end of the 1960s, it belongs to a series of works featuring the
artist’s hand spray-painted in fluorescent colors on canvas. The work was later destroyed.
