Essential Feature Lymm Rotary Handover The members of Lymm Rotary club met recently to celebrate the inauguration of their new President, Mike Wood, who took over the helm from retiring President, Neville Davies. This will be Mike’s second term in office, having been President in 2008/9. In his plans for the next year Mike said that he wanted to continue the club’s Afri-Twin support for Lymm High School, maintain our financial support by way of school fees, and travel fees, for Amina Neumani, a little 5 year old Xhosa girl, so that she can continue her vital education at the “Little Sparklers” school in East London, South Africa. Also, he wanted the club to look at maintaining our support for the “Porridge and Rice” charity and the Njoro School in Kenya, and budget to send Shelter Boxes when needed to world disaster areas. Continuing, Mike said, “I want a strong Community programme and I expect the Christmas float to be bigger still this year. A n extra night collecting should allow us to get round all areas – 14 nights out, starting on the 3rd December – and four static collections.” He wanted to see more liaison with the local primary and secondary schools in the area and continue to support the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards – a leader development programme whose events are typically 3 – 10 days long. “Of course, we will still be holding our Senior Citizens’ Party and Cyril Bell Award”. Mike concluded by hoping that the club will support him in all the projects and that we will continue to provide service internationally and to the local community while, at the same time, enjoying friendship and fellowship as we go about achieving these objectives. Lymm Rotary is keen to hear from men and women who would like to use their experience for the benefit of others in their international, national and community projects.
