Heritage Watch
There was a time when church burglars
headed straight for the alter for valuables
to add to their shopping baskets. Not

likely to be searching for a quiet way up
onto the roof.

Andy Williams, Stronger Communities
Manager, speaking to members of the
Stockton Heath Parish Council at their
July meeting told councillors that the
theft of lead and other metals from
heritage assets is costing the public many
thousands of pounds in repair bills when
roofs are left over open to the elements.
Even worse some thefts can lead to the
loss of a piece of history for ever.

He went on to say that a number of
agencies have been looking into the
problem of heritage crime and what can
be done to protect these assets for future
generations resulting in the creation of
Heritage Watch.
