Essential Feature The Bridge Of Sighs At their June meeting Stockton Heath Parish Councillors were still in the dark regarding the opening and closing of the bridges when Peel Ports start sending containers up the Manchester Ship Canal. Whilst wishing Peel Holdings every success in their venture, they have no desire to see this at the expense of the people of Stockton Heath. Members felt that logically the more successful Peel Ports are with their ambitions the more often the bridges will become closed to traffic, This could be disastrous to life in the village causing traffic grid locks and pollution if it is done during the day. Instead members suggested that any increased canal traffic should be shipped at night. They also wondered when they would get sight of details in the Memorandum of Understanding already signed by Warrington Borough Council and Peel Holdings. 10th Annual Grappenhall Walk I will be organising the annual walk to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. This will be the 10th Annual Walk when over £25,000 has already been raised by the many walkers who have participated over these 10 years. It will be held on Sunday 26th October at 11a.m. from the Grappenhall Community Centre on Bellhouse Lane in Grappenhall. Anyone interested in raising money for this worthwhile charity is welcome to come along on the day and make a donation or better still ask me for a sponsor form and invite your family, friends and work colleagues to sponsor you or to join you in the Walk. It is only 3miles around the Grappenhall area. For more information contact me via email at [email protected] or phone 01925 262851. Meanwhile a Working Party has been set up to put together an action strategy. The unsightly state of the Bridge also came up for criticism and the council have requested Peel Ports to provide a copy of their asset maintenance plan. Councillors also expressed concern about the proposed toll for the new Runcorn Bridge and the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge which will increase the traffic congestion in Warrington and Stockton Heath. It was agreed that Warrington should campaign against the toll charges 22 Nine issues in Culcheth Lymm Great Sankey & Penketh Chapelford Stockton Heath & Appleton Thewlwall, Grappenhall & Latchford Birchwood Lowton & Golborne Newton-le-Willows
