Lymm Runners tackle Chester Marathon
and raise £3,500 for charities
MEMBERS of Lymm Runners raised
almost £3,500 for various charities by
taking part in the Chester Marathon.
Twenty-one members, the highest
number of runners the club has ever
entered into a marathon and the highest
number of entrants from a single club
in this year’s event, tackled the race in
October – many making their debut in
the 26.2 mile distance.
The club also had two runners taking
part in the Metric Marathon – 26.2km –
which took place at the same time.
Many of the runners were raising funds
for charities including Cancer Research, St
Ann’s Hospice, Help The Hospices, Little
View Holidays, Diabetes UK and Roy
Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Times ranged from between just over
three hours to just over five hours, and
four new Lymm Runners club records
were set for the marathon distance.
The club, which formed in 2010 and is the
only running club in the village, recently
lowered its membership age to 16. It is
affiliated to UK Athletics and is a part of
the North West Cross Country League.
In January it will be holding another
beginners course. The courses are always
popular and many of those taking part
in the Chester Marathon first joined the
club on a previous beginners course.
Lymm Runners is also responsible for
jointly organising, alongside the High
Legh Community Association, the High
Legh 10k, which will take place on 1
March 2015. Entries are now open for
this community event which always
fills up quickly. More details are
available on the website at www.
highlegh10k.org.uk.
Lymm Runners meet at Lymm
Leisure Centre every Tuesday
and Thursday at 7pm, and every
Sunday at 8am and 9am. They
also meet outside Lymm Library
every Wednesday at 9.15am. For
