While we hiked, we gained some valuable skills including map work and navigation using a compass. and not as easy as they make it look on Strictly! Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed it and made lots of new friends, which I would not have done if I had not participated in the award scheme. The final aspect of the Award was a three day expedition, plus a practice expedition held earlier in the year. For this, our group of six girls decided to trek through the Peak District. We carried all our belongings, food and tents with us while walking, which was something we had never attempted before. We had never met two of the girls in our team, so our teamwork skills were challenged throughout the expedition as we didn’t Overall, I found the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is both physically and mentally challenging, making it a very worthwhile experience and a great way to meet new people whilst having a fantastic time.
