German Jamboree
2014
Last year we were selected with eight
other girls to represent the Cheshire
Forest County of Guiding abroad on a
large European scouting camp know as a
Jamboree.
As
a
group we
decided to go to a camp in Germany
called “Volldampf” (or “full steam”) that
was run by a group of scouting known as
the VCP. The trip took place this August
just gone and we all agree that it was the
best two weeks of our lives so far.
We arrived in Munich and had a day there
sightseeing before we headed to camp on
our third day. We were partnered with
a scouting group from N rnberg and
took part in a variety of camp activities
which included a day hike that ended
in swimming and an international day
where we gave out free cups of tea as we
were the only Brits there.
Africa. It was a truly amazing experience
with one of the highlights being the
evacuation half way through camp due
to servre weather warnings. We were well
looked after and this gave us the chance
to meet even more people and bond
more with our partner scouts as we slept
over at a local school. After all we were
part of the sub camp Explorers Club with
our chant being “to new adventures”
which is something we definitely lived
up to.
We had a great time and have all made
lifelong friends who we had good laughs
with and are still in contact with. We
both want to go back and relive it all
again and hopefully set up a return trip
to Britain for our partner group. The trip
was incredible and gave us a real taste of
Germany and how Guiding and Scouting
continues to bring people together from
all over the world.
