CADRAG Meeting
CADRAG had a meeting with HS2
representatives on 3rd July. The HS2
representatives set out their current
expectation regarding the consultation
which was that the Minister would make
a statement in the Autumn. However this
would be largely a holding statement,
with perhaps some firm announcements,
but final decisions would not be
announced until mid-2015, ie after the
next general Election.
THIS MAKES IT AN ELECTION ISSUE!
MAKE SURE YOUR MP AND OTHER
CANDIDATES HEAR FROM YOU ON
THIS!
We made our argument to the HS2
representatives. We argued that the new
report HS2 Plus which came out after the
22
consultation closed and proposed a new
hub station at Crewe meant the basis
of the consultation had changed. This
new proposal significantly weakens the
argument for the line past Culcheth, as
the connection to the West Coast Main
Line at Crewe will be built in any case, so
our alternative proposal to use the WCML
instead of the Golborne link becomes
even more cost effective. We pressed for
the Minister’s Autumn statement to say
the Golborne link would not go ahead.
On a lighter, but no less important, note
we are organising a second quiz Night
following the highly successful first one
earlier in the year. If you enjoyed our last
one, or only heard about it, come along
and have a great time! It is on Friday 17th
October at the Village Club, tickets ( £5
including hot pot supper ) from Bernie
07527-220122, or Frank 01925-765017.
All proceeds to our fighting fund.
