Singing in the Rain
favourite song with the Cubs from the
2013 May camp, camp fire it quickly
became the name for this year’s May
camp. With pools of water underfoot
and raindrops beating down on the tent
providing a lullaby to send us to sleep,
gave the Cubs an opportunity to walk the
plank!
Saturday, mid-afternoon the Beavers
preparing to move up to Cubs came
along to stay overnight for a taste of Cub
life. One Cub with adult supervision
soon had them running round the camp
site on a Beaver hunt, (orienteering trail
looking for Beaver pictures).
This year saw us holding a camp
fire with a difference; using an
alter fire under a roofed over
area we soon got started with
Camp Fire Burning followed
with the camp fire version of
Singing in the Rain and a variety
of songs, some led with a bit of
adult encouragement by section
members. Closing with Kum by
ah Lord and our usual mug of
soup.
we soon became
used to wellies piling up in the tent
doorway.
Despite this we had a fantastic camp with
the Scouts coping admirably on their
own site continuing to cook outside over
an alter fire. Cubs continued to sleep in
tents as in previous years with a few
more activities in the lodge than usual.
Sunday morning is adventure
morning on May camp: this year
saw them in action on a Low ropes course
for the Beavers and Cubs, good practice
for any pirate to climb the rigging! Cubs
due to move up to Scouts in the next few
months had an extra treat as they joined
the Scouts on the climbing wall.
Taking into account the age of the
Scouts and Cubs, camping skills
covering tent care and pitching, safety
and cooking over a fire were covered
along with map reading and some
