The English Channel: A Tribute to Susan Hawkins and Linda McCloskey | Page 20

Susan Hawkins was a mentor and friend from 1988 when I came to OU until she so prematurely left us all.

She pioneered our first courses in detective fiction, avant-garde fiction, Cold War literature, and the Western genre. She was a consummate pro as a teacher and demanded her students stretch their comfort zones as thinkers and writers.

We celebrated many birthdays and special occasions together, and her many friends, myself among them,

will always remember her lively interest in our growing children,

great conversation and fine cooking, and keen intelligence of Susan Hawkins.
