the various tools involved, covered honing basics and tribology as well as outlining the processes used today in serial production. Reiner also discussed peak, laser and plateau honing and the characteristics of different honing surfaces as well as important surface parameters. Also discussed were the various possibilities for errors in the geometry of cylinder bores, and Reiner examined tools for honing and testing, considered the best parameters for honing processes and covered machining faults and how to avoid them.
Altogether, the seminar provided an invaluable insight into the importance of this crucial area of engine remanufacturing and we’ d certainly recommend visiting the MS Motorservice website where there are a great many detailed technical notes available on all aspects of engine technology.
We’ ll be reporting on the full day of technical presentation and the engine assembly workshop which took place on Wednesday October 23, in more detail in the next issue of The Engine ebuilderwww. ms-motorservice. com www. andover. ac. uk
