Working on a cylinder where the inlet valves are fully closed, Regal blasts away the buildup.‘ You see a lot online about walnut blasting,’ says Steven.‘ It’ s essentially the same thing but with a manmade synthetic granule specifically designed to break down the carbon buildup. We use a product from a company called Tunap, and we blast through the carbon deposits; it’ s a similar set-up to sandblasting.’
It sounds messy.‘ It could create a mess, but over the years, we’ ve settled on a process that, for want of a better description, has a hoover attached to it. So we’ re cleaning as we go and taking out the deposits in one fell swoop.’
