n The founder of Air Flow Research, Ken Sperling, pioneered the CNC porting of cylinder heads as early as 1970. Since then, the company has dedicated itself to getting air in and out of V8 engines as fast as possible. It doesn’ t just tweak and machine existing heads anymore; it manufactures Chevrolet, Ford and Mopar heads and other highperformance parts.
The latest addition to its catalogue is three Mongoose camsahfts, designed for Chevrolet’ s LS3 engine. The LS3 V8, found in the fifthgeneration Camaro and C6 Corvette, came with a displacement ranging from 5.7 to 6.2 litres and the new cams are suitable for each variation.
The Mongoose cams are ground from a billet steel core and come with intake durations from 223 ° to 232 °, exhaust durations from 231 ° to 244 °. And valve intake lifts from 0.604 to 0.629-inch, and exhaust lifts from 0.595 and 0.612-inch. The three cams have been designed to complement Air Flow Research’ s 260cc Mongoose LS3 cylinder heads.
