Hennessey and Ilmor Engineering create the world’ s most powerful road car engine

With 2031hp, the Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution becomes the combustion-engined car with the most clout
n Texas-based car company, Hennessey, has gained a reputation for huge power and record-breaking figures, usually top speeds. With its new car, the Venom V5 Evolution, it’ s doing both.
The latest Venom is powered by, what Hennessey calls, the Fury; a totally bespoke engine rather than a modified crate motor. The Fury is a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 and it makes 2031bhp at 8000rpm and 1445lb ft torque at 5200rpm. That’ s 214bhp more than in the same-size turbo V8 in the standard Venom F5.
To achieve these extra gains, Hennessey partnered with UK-based engineering firm Ilmoor. Hennessey has had a long-standing relationship with Roger Penske, who has commissioned Ilmor to build engines for his Indy Car teams since the early 1990s.
Ilmor’ s involvement led to even more power being produced by the V8. It did this by adding its own oval-shaped billet aluminium pistons, designed extremeduty billet aluminium conrods, lightweight titanium exhaust valves and adding

larger high-flow fuel injectors. It also engineered lightweight valve covers. Ilmor also helped adapt the largest mirror image turbochargers in the world for the Fury.
The result of the Fury’ s power in the new Venom is a 0 to 200mph time of
just 10.3 seconds. Hennessey hopes that this new hypercar will become the world’ s fastest car by beating the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300 +’ s 304mph speed and go on to crack the 500kmh( 310mph) barrier.
