As well as a huge range of used, new, remanufactured and reconditioned Lotus parts – it must be the largest 900 series Lotus parts stockist in the world – Mike also indulges himself with some serious research and development work, including regular use of his on-site Schenck dynamometer, and has numerous contacts capable of engineering specialist engine parts to his exact requirements. A recent project has been the design and production of a Lotus cylinder head, machined from solid, with greatly impro�ed flow capabilities achie�ed b� a better combustion chamber as well as port design and angle which produces significantl� impro�ed tor�ue and power throughout the rev range, even compared to con�entionall� modified standard heads which are also available. As well as the Lotus applications this also suits the Vauxhall block, so increasing its desirability even further. After experiencing problems and delays with sourcing bespoke crankshafts from several prominent specialists, Mike made contact with Five-Pen Engineering, only a mile away in Long Itchington. This traditional specialist engineering company has since been employed to machine counterweighted crankshafts and fl�wheels �rom billet, as well as man� other useful components made to order. The long-stroke crank conversion is a Lotusbits speciality, inherent in the 2.5-litre engine upgrade that has been proven in their rally cars. Lotusbits also offers a set of 2.0-litre pistons or 2.2 ultralight pistons. Both sets come with lightweight conrods with smaller pins and longer rod length, which improves conrod angularity to allow the engine to rev higher, up to 9000 rpm.
