The dodo birds going extinct largely attributed to humans. When they first arrived on the island of Mauritius the sailors saw how slow the dodo birds ran. The sailors foud it effortless to catch one and eat it.

Also the sailors brought with them to the island different animals, such as dogs and cats. These animals trampled the dodo birds' nests and devoured their eggs.

What made us aware?

One of the very special trait of dodo bird was the lack of ablity to fly. The fact that the dodo bird was in the book Alice In The Wonderland, increased public attention towards the bird, which led to more interest to the bird and fastinating discoveries by scientists. One of the last complete sets of skelton a dodo bird was lost to a fire in 1755. A lot of reports were done on this accident, and more specific and detailed models were made. This accident was broadcasted, and attracted the attention of the public.
