Cynthia's Words of Wisdom
Find mentors! Ask questions!
Write down what you're feeling!
It doesn't have to be perfect!
You're going to mess up--don't
let that stop you from learning
or embracing change. Try not to
let embarrassing moments or
moments of fear trap you in a
mentality that tells you are not
enough. You are always enough,
your story is important, you are
not better or less than anyone
else in the room, and you
deserve to be here.
Being curious and open to
understanding myself was
formative for me in college. I
discovered the messiness about
celebrating my roots and grappling
with the diaspora--- that my
learning about myself and the
stories of my family is lifelong. As
the East LA remixing roots band
Las Cafeteras say “to know who
you are, you gotta know where you
were..”
