Hi My name is Kimberly from the colony at CSUS, I am with Sacramento Covered. I am an intern there through my program Spanish in Health Related Fields. Sacramento Covered is nonprofit org. that helps connect individuals with health services as well as help them navigate their health coverage. My time there has been a learning experience. I had the opportunity to shadow different individuals working there and it’s given me a better idea just how they provide services to different populations, communities in the Sacramento county. I attend a lot of the outreach events which are so much fun and reaching out to people and networking is one of my favorite things to do. A lot of the individuals in our community don’t really know some of the programs and service we offer so whenever I get to tell someone about what we do at Sacamento Covered makes me happy and it’s rewarding, that’s one more person that knows about what we do that one day may need our help. Internships are great way to network and connect with individuals and ones surrounding community.

Hello Sisters!!! My name is Ana Duran, I was an intern at the Prairie View A&M University for the Campus Planning and Space Management Department. It was a great experience to work for the university that I actually study at. I conducted internal space audits, gained Space Management experience. It was a paid intership, that alowed me to go al over campus. This Internship gave me access to buildings I had never even been in. This Internship heped enhance my comunications skills as well as my design skills. I did all this while also working towards my Master’s of Architecture.

Howdy! I'm from the Beta Zeta chapter, I'm an accounting major and I'm about to graduate with my bachelors in December. I interned at Intuit in Plano, TX like 15 minutes from campus. It was a paid internship, I didn't have to move, I got it because I received an email saying the company was doing a network dinner on campus so I signed up to go.

This was my third internship, I had previously done one as a tax preparer and one as an auditor and I got hired at Intuit because they liked that I had tax experience.

I got my first internship by joining a honors business fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi, and going to their Meet the Firms event and I printed out and handed out around a dozen resumes. I goofed and didn't follow up with anyone I met BUT one of the firms reached out to me for an interview. Note: DO NOT RELY ON THIS! They meet a lot of students, you should reach out to them!! I got really lucky! So I got hired at Carr Riggs & Ingram as a tax preparer from Jan-April 2017 and then they extended it through October. They offered me a position in their tax department but I wanted to try audit so I took their audit internship in spring 2018 and then they offered to keep me through summer but at this point I had already secured a summer internship with Intuit so I declined.

My biggest advice is to just take a leap with good job offers even if the specific job itself isn't what you want (I originally wanted to be an auditor but was only offered the tax position at first) because you never know what doors it will open up. Also, start interning early and try to work in a variety of areas in your field. Don't just take 1 internship, try to get at least 2, even if it means you graduate a semester later because you'll graduate with more experience (and hopefully job offers!)
