Sisters,

As winter comes to a close, people will be out and about again! At all times, it is important to take steps to keep yourself safe when you are moving around your campus and your town/city. Here are a few simple tips to help stay safe.

- If you are new to the campus or the area, please make sure to familiarize yourself with it. Research the crime rates and specific locations in which they are higher, and always be sure that you know your surroundings.

- Know your resources! If you are on campus, be aware of how best to contact your campus safety and security officers if needed.

- Before you head out, secure your doors and windows and make sure that your phone is charged so that you can contact someone in case of an emergency.

- Keep moving and do your best to stay in well-lit areas. That said, you should focus on being cautious but not paranoid. Try keeping only one earbud in if you are listening to music and avoid texting and walking so that you can see and hear what is happening around you.

- The classic line: If you see something, say something! If a situation strikes you as odd or concerning, your instincts may be right and you should notify the proper authority. Better safe than sorry!
