I began my undergraduate journey at a small private college in New Rochelle , New York . But it wasn ’ t until I moved to Las Vegas , Nevada with my family and transferred schools was where I felt like my undergrad career really took off . Through my involvement with Kappa Delta Chi new opportunities opened up for me . I never knew how important it was as a first-generation student to become involved on my campus . I had to work 10x harder to create connections with staff to be able to hold positions and receive chances to grow professionally .
Like many other first-generation students , imposter syndrome took over . There were so many times I felt like I didn ’ t belong in the positions I held - academically , professionally , and within Kappa Delta Chi - but with the reassurances from my family and sxsters I felt like I could do anything , and be anything I set my mind to . I ’ ve grown so much confidence in speaking my truth and opinions , and it ’ s all been with the motivation from my sxsters .
I have constantly been reminded to speak up because whatever I ’ m thinking or feeling , is probably something that others are also feeling . If it weren ’ t for my family , friends , and sxsters , I don ’ t think I would have reached this milestone !
Congratulations to the Class of 2021 and to the members of the Class of 2020 who were able to finally walk the stage !
