In December , I embarked on a new journey as a secondin-command for a Dallas-based Charter and Medevac company . This role often involves flying alongside doctors who conduct organ transplant surgeries across the country , while our aircraft becomes the guardian of precious , life-saving organs . Witnessing the intricacies of this process is awe-inspiring , and it ' s incredibly fulfilling to know that though we may not wield scalpels , we play a pivotal role in saving lives by facilitating the transport of surgeons and organs .
Recently , I had the honor of participating in my first " unmanned " flight , led by a remarkable female captain . Together , we transported a beating heart back to Dallas — a profoundly moving experience that unfolded with beauty at every turn . I am eager to share this story with The Emerald and my fellow sisters , for the aviation realm is a close-knit community , often dominated by males . I want everyone to recognize that aviation is not solely a domain for men ; it ' s open to all who yearn to contribute . Even if piloting isn ' t your forte , the expansive " aviation industry " encompasses numerous captivating professions worth exploring , with scholarships available for specific training paths . Moreover , envisioning more KDChis gracing the skies fills me with hope and excitement .
