Popular fundraising events throughout our undergraduate chapters include sports tournaments.
This year, KDChi's Beta Chapter at Texas A&M, held its annual “Kick The Hell Out of Cancer” Kickball Tournament for the 12th time, with great success. Despite the gloomy weather, the ladies filled the fields with energy…and people.
Thanks to Double Dave’s and Domino’s Pizza, everyone had a fun time and a great lunch. Half of the event's proceeds were donated to the American Cancer Society and the other half was to be given to the winner's choice of charity. In a wonderful turn of events, the winning team, 3Peat, chose to send their winnings to KDChi’s national philanthropy. Thanks, 3Peat!

KDChi is proud to have The American Cancer Society—an organization that saves lives by helping people stay well and get well by finding cures and fighting back—as its National Philanthropy. With national initiatives such as Penguins for Prevention, Sisters across the nation work hard each semester to raise awareness and funds that will benefit the American Cancer Society.

“Nunca pensé tener un trabajo como el que actualmente tengo, y menos a mi edad” – Selina Armenta, en camino a ser abogada

Selina Armenta-Eleuterio estudia el segundo año de Legal Studies (Estudios Legales) en la universidad en la Universidad de Wisconsin-Madison, y se le ve contenta “Sí, puedes decir que soy “sophomore” ahorita. Mi carrera es similar al derecho, por eso espero obtener certificados en Criminal Justice (Justicia Criminal) y Chicano Latino Studies (Estudios Chicano Latinos), para luego continuar en la Escuela de Leyes para obtener un doctorado en Leyes y ser abogada”.
La historia de Selina es al mismo usual como extraordinaria. Emigró a Estados Unidos desde Queretaro cuando apenas tenía tres años. Eso fue el año 1999, y Selina explica: “Emigré casi sin darme cuenta, era niña, pero siempre supe la razón: porque mis padres querían darme mejores oportunidades. Ellos querían que recibiera una buena educación y que creciera en un lugar seguro”.
En efecto sus padres, María del Rosario Eleuterio y mi papá Alejandro Armenta, de Santiago Mexquititlán y Amealco, respectivamente son un matrimonio “Salió de Queretano para obtener mejores oportunidades de trabajo para
darme un buen hogar y todo lo necesario en términos de cuidados de salud. Ellos mismos tuvieron que dejar a sus propias familias, las redes de apoyo, a una edad muy joven para dirigirse a un futuro incierto;
pero debo decirlo, gracias a sus sacrificios nunca me faltó nada y tuve una infancia feliz”.
Selina estuvo en las secundarias West High School y en La Follette High School, donde se graduó, en ambos lugares tuvo un regimiento escolar destacado y obtuvo multiples apoyos y reconocimientos académicos.
