The Emerald Newsletter | Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Fall 2017 | Page 35

There are three things on my stole that have a great significance in my life. First, my degree. I am a first generation college student and obtaining my bachelors degree in criminology has not only been a huge accomplishment of mine, but my family's as well. Our Kappa Delta Chi letters and shield are what makes up most of my stole. Finding a group of women on a large campus that have the same goals and values as I do made my college experience that much better. KDChi has given me sisters that I can always rely on and a sisterhood that has brought so much joy and happiness into my life. Lastly,

the position I held for a year and a half my last few semesters of undergrad. If you would've told me my freshman year that I would be president of an organization, I would've thought that would never happen. I joined KDChi as a freshman and my passion for the organization started then. Being president of KDChi has taught me so many lessons that I have taken with me into my "adult life". Being president taught me to have patience, always listen to what others has to say, be there for others when they need you, give words of encouragement, and set an example for those that are younger. These three symbols on my stole will forever be cherished.

3 Initiation Must-Makes

As soon as initiation is over, everyone is so excited to take pictures throwing their first kappa. Make a frame and save that moment forever! A great idea would be to give your little this picture frame with a note inside the frame that says “insert first photo throwing your kappa here” or include a heartfelt message. Another good thing to is to include important dates on the back of the frame such as pinning day, big/little reveal, and initiation day.

Newly-initiated sisters are always excited and ready to show off their well deserved letters. Since wearing a KDChi shirt every day is not an option for any sister who has a dress code, another way to subliminally show off your new letters is with KDChi bling on your key ring. Making a keychain can take many forms: it can be a miniature paddle, a beaded string, or macramé if you want to try your hand at a new craft form!

No matter the time of the year, I always look forward to initiation season. It is a period of growth and new beginnings within our sisterhood that allows us to reflect on our own initiations- the awkward moment when you first hear the tune of our song, the tears in your class sisters’ eyes as they light their candle, and overwhelming sense of joy at the end of the ceremony.

With initiation also comes a sometimes stressful tradition, gifts from a big to their little! After exploring the Pinterest universe, I have decided that these three initiations gifts are must-makes. They are all as easy or complex as you want to make them.

#1 Pin

A pin box is a great place to keep a New Member pin as a keepsake and a newly earned official pin safe. Pin boxes can be designed to match your family tree or to show off pink and maroon pride! The possibilities are endless! Plus, this craft is very affordable with most blank boxes cost around $2 at craft stores.
