Choice of School / Magnet
Applications Open December 1- January 12
The 2026-2027 Choice of School / Magnet applications are now open for students entering grades 1-12 for the upcoming school year.
Great news: If you want your student to remain at their current campus, you don’ t need to submit an application!
A Choice of School application is required for students who: are currently in 5th grade, are currently in 8th grade, want to apply for a magnet program, or wish to switch campuses.
Current kindergartners entering 1st grade in the 2026 – 2027 school year who wish to change campuses should apply now.
Families will log in to their Avela Apply account via apply. avela. org / garlandisd to complete the Choice form, including any Magnet selections, by January 12, 2026. This is not a first-come, first-served process; families have time to review their options before submitting.
Things to Know: GISD will create accounts in Avela using Family 1 / Guardian 1 information from Skyward
Families will not need to sign up.
Applications will remain open during Winter Break( December 22-January 2), but enrollment processing will be paused until January 6.
Family Support Nights provide families with hands-on support during the Choice of School process. Staff will be on hand to answer questions, explore Magnet options, explain transportation, and assist with enrollment. Each session runs from 4 p. m. to 7 p. m.
