I am a Pattern Drafter & Seamstress who has done just about everything ~ from sample-making to couture sewing to teaching both industrial & couture skills. My sewing career began in the 1980’s at the U of A in Human Ecology (although passion for it began alot earlier, with my first pattern project at 8 years). I have designed "uniforms" for local restaurants (Sorrentino’s) worked with teams & groups (Richard Eaton Singers, 1996 World Figure Skating Championships). I have consulted on product development with research companies who need sewn products, managed production & quality on the sewing floor of small factories (Connie’s Sweat Shop) & co-managed the marketing-design division of a large local manufacturer (Marv Holland). I have also taught & developed sewing-related courses (Edmonton Public-Continuing Education, Fashion Design program at MC College).

I love working with all materials & combinations, especially challenging ones! And also working with people ~ whether helping them bring a unique garment idea to life, or sharing my knowledge & skills. I am inspired by working with others who share an interest in all sewing arts.

In addition to custom work & alterations, I combine passions for design & music by working with the performance & theatre community. I am a singer myself, working with my partner on launching a funky new blues band (but more about that another time).

So basically, a growing network of musicians and fashionista friends keeps me young, and fresh on what’s happening around E-town. My future plans for this monthly section include taking a peek at some of the AMAZING Fashion-related things happening right here at home! Perhaps a feature interview with local designers you may not have heard of yet (in addition to some I know you have). Or maybe a music or theater performance featuring stage clothing locally designed ... and of course whatever mischief my Fashion students get up to!

One thing I can promise is, this will never be a dull read ;)
