Paintings are like still stories. It's this quality, the unmoving narrative of the image, which attracts me to oil painting. Regardless of genre or era, style or place of origin, a painting has passion and expression baked into it. It is a living stillness, one we can revisit and reinvest in throughout our own lives. Although I'm in love with it now, I started painting begrudgingly in my first years at the University of Alberta.

Imagine my surprise five years later when I graduated with my BFA and a house full of canvas. While working through the fine arts program I was awarded the Roger S Smith research award for a painting

project of my own design. I was given the opportunity to deliver a paper on art criticism to the Western Canadian Philosophical Association in Saskatoon, and began writing about the arts in Edmonton. Most

recently I have exhibitied my own work at Lotus Gallery, the Cities and Climate Change Science Conference, and in association with the Works Festival.
