The time has finally come! The launch of the Alberta Podcast Network that is powered by ATB is up and running!

Now, I am new to the podcast scene. To be honest, I never really knew what they actually were, up until a few months ago. My eyes have been opened and my ears have been perked to a whole new sense of radio that I am developing an addiction for.

So, what is a podcast? Well, this is a very interesting question to answer because it really is in a league of it's own. There are many things like it and a podcast consists of many different things as well. You could say it is radio, or a library for radio even. They are usually composed of episodes and series, with an extremely diverse set of subjects, (I am sure you could find almost anything you want), but the best part is that you can get them on demand and on multiple platforms.

For instance, The Alberta Podcast Networks programs are available through their website, through the individual shows websites and social media as well as through the new CKUA app. (See below) For the launch they currently host 19 podcasts ranging from Bollywood movie breakdowns and pop culture to sports highlights to politics and entrepreneurship. (You can find the full list on their website and I also included the list at the last page of this article.) I have personally taken the time to listen to one episode from every podcaster and the main consistency is that it is high quality material. Each podcaster is dedicated and knowledgeable in their fields and each one has created an engaging show to provide their listeners. You can hear the dedication, the research and the time that goes into each episode. These shows are run off of a passion for the subject and that makes it so much more interesting and captivating. I can see why they were chosen for the launch!

And this is only the beginning. Currently all of the podcasters are Edmonton and Calgary based however the Alberta Podcast Network wants to expand and have podcasters from all over Alberta. I absolutely love the idea behind this network; A hyper-local base with a global outreach. Genius!
