I want to talk about how it’s gradually getting darker, even darker when we turn the clocks back. If you are like me and have S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder) according to CAMH (Center for Addiction & Mental Health) Seasononal Affective Disorder is generally caused by changes in the level of exposure to sunlight.  Best to get your self-care routine established. Self-care is self- love and I feel to be practiced every day. Why do I say this? Well I have cut corners, slacked off and let my ego think its ok to not take care of myself. Then the depression, anxiety and stress creeps back in…why? Because I didn’t put myself first, self-care is not SELFISH! We have been programmed, shamed and scoffed at for not crushing it 24/7. Like we wear a badge or cloak of busyness. That’s avoidance or an inherent belief that you don’t matter – but you do! So amp up your self-care routine. What does it look like? For me, it’s a dream journal, a gratitude journal, reading, exercise, grounding, clean eating (gut health is 100% linked to mental health) getting outside for some vitamin D, restful sleep (at least 7-8 hours) meditation, massages, Yoga, music, sound therapy, hot baths, friends, family, and quiet time, time to unplug and recharge! I know if I do not keep this self-care schedule, my mood, my anxiety, my depression and my ego slowly take over. The mind starts running on autopilot, the numbing, the avoidance, the poor eating habits, no exercise…it’s a slow slip but once it hits, it hits all at once!
