I honestly encourage other artists to consider a residency. Working along with other artists involved in different art avenues and discovering this local art community, everyone comes together to create awareness and make incredible art exhibits every two months. This gallery is a pillar of the art community in Edmonton, emerging artists working together, you can find one of us in there every day of the week ready to tell our story to the whole world. We are definitely an important voice in Edmonton, there is no doubt about that.

How my personality is similar to my art?

If you have a conversation with me, you will soon realize that is really valuable for me to just be myself. I have learned to completely embrace my weirdness, some people say that i think outside the box, and I say to them "there is no box". I truly believe that my body of work carries precisely that statement.

It is very important to me to be able to sell my art, it is the one thing i have to manifest in order to live my dream and devote all my energy to my imagination. After all, that's how the world was created!

The formula I use to price my work is simple: I give myself an hourly rate plus materials but I also cap my hours at eighty hours, some paintings take longer than eighty hours due to the level of intricacy of my work.

Art is not the way that I make a living at the moment but it will be as it is my destiny. I had a bit of that taste! Let me explain... I would work a regular job for a couple of months, and pay my rent for three months, then just paint for three months. It has been challenging but honestly I’ve never felt so amazing and I would keep doing this at all cost. It is that important to me; art is me, and me … well I just be.

How I’m overcoming this financial challenges is by continueing to create no matter what my

circumstances are. By absorbing and executing all advices received in my residency, I feel that if I’m able to keep going no matter what, I will make this as a part of my everyday reality, and that, my friends, is worth any struggle I’ve ever faced.

Sincerely,

Amaury Fortuna .
