Dupe decided that Nigerian food should be more mainstream. She is testing the waters so to speak with a series of four dinners held at four different locations throughout Edmonton. I was lucky enough to get invited to the one this past weekend held at the Blue Sky Art Lofts on June 29th.

The tables are set up family style. There are no assigned seats. This encourages strangers to chat and meet new people. Dupe has a talent for decorating as well. The table settings were absolutely beautiful.

The dinner started with a non-alcoholic hibiscus drink, followed by chicken pepper soup, and asaro (yam) and plantain with steak bites and a lovely tomato stew. Nigerian pound cake with hibiscus flower ice cream was the dessert. All of the food was amazing! It was also nice to chat with my Nigerian neighbours at the table and learn more about their food and culture while enjoying a meal together.

Tickets are $55 for three courses and available through eventbrite. Later, Aunty Dupe hopes to launch Nigerian cooking classes and maybe open up a restaurant someday on Jasper Avenue.

The event dates left are July 27 at Strathearn Hall, August 24 at Cafe Lavi and Sept. 21 at Sugar Swing Ballroom. The exact menus for each event will be released a month prior to the event on social media. (Instagram is her forte)
