A little Q&A with lead singer, James Harapiak

What brought this group together?

My brother-in-law Dawson is an extremely talented guitar player and had been playing in cover bands professionally for many years. As much as I loved watching him play I truly wished he could spread his wings and do more original material. I on the other hand love writing songs in my spare time and have countless melodies and lyrics stored in my head. So we combined our two gifts and after crafting an album together, we decided to find a rhythm section and make our rockin' sounds a reality.

How did the name, 'The Dice Cubes' come about?

I was desperate to convey the truths of this band in the name. I can't pretend we are the toughest, coolest guys that ever walked the planet. It comes across as phoney to me. We are truly a bunch of dorks that love old school rockabilly and rock n' roll. We play upbeat, toe tapping tunes about guys much too square for the girls they love. That and the name Ice Cube was apparently taken already........

Care to share a funny story or an interesting factoid about each band member?

Unfortunately no. We have never had anything remotely funny or interesting happen to us. Ever......Haha. Dawson Walker is an absolute professional to the highest degree and as far as we know has never played a wrong note in his life. Tim Resaul is our drummer, sound technician, mixer, producer, and overseer of all we do. If you've heard us play he's had a hand in every step of production. Andrew Cook is by far the most upbeat positive influence you could ever ask for in a bass player. His All-For-One, One-For-All attitude has brought the band to new heights of excitement. I on the other hand am a wet blanket, a square, a damp paper bag... etc. etc.

What are your plans for 2019?

We will release two Christmas songs in the middle of this month, that we hope to be a tradition for us, a way of giving back to everyone who has listened or come see us play throughout the year. The band is currently re-mixing and mastering our very first album "Too Square To Roll" cobbled together from years of recordings new and old. We are also about half way though writing our follow up to last years album "Got Lucky!" with probably overly optimistic plans to record before the year end. In between all the recording and writing we try to play at least once a month in the city with sites set on as many summer music festivals as we can!

If you could play with any band, who would it be?

Long Answer: I think if your own band is not your favorite band in the whole world then you are doing something wrong! Short Answer: The Dice Cubes
