This month we would like to introduce you to Keith MacPherson, a visual artist from Edmonton.
Instead of giving you an essay about Keith, we decided it would be more interesting if we presented an interview with the artist and showed you some of his amazing paintings.
Martiam:; So Keith, tell us your favourite thing to do?
Keith: Explore art!
Mariam: What is your favourite medium to paint with?
Keith: Oil paint.
Mariam: What inspires you to paint?
Keith (a man of short answers): LIFE! Long answer People are the main inspiration for me. Their dignity, their strength, their frailty and everything in between. I draw so much inspiration from people and the things they do.
Mariam: What type of paintings do you paint?
Keith: I mostly paint figuratively (people and places) and impressionistic although I do enjoy painting surrealism as well.
Mariam: What does the subject matter tend to be?
Keith: People and urban landscapes tend to play a prominent role in the bulk of my paintings.
Mariam: Why is it important for you to paint?
Keith: This is going to sound like a cliché but it truly gives my life personal meaning and I feel that painting gives me a voice.
Mariam: How do you consider your life would be if you didn’t paint?
Keith: I feel that my life would be a lot poorer, emotionally and spiritually.
Mariam: Do you sell your art?
Keith: I do, and I get great personal satisfaction knowing that my paintings touch and speak to others enough that they want to buy one of my paintings.
