SYNTHESIS
To better understand ecological health , the Conservancy is in the process of finalizing a set of indicators for each of these habitats . These indicators will be prioritized based on their impact to ecological health and measured to determine their status . The measurement system will incorporate components similar to those in KICA ’ s Resilience Plan , including trigger points and thresholds for conditions to maintain consistency within the community . Additionally , ongoing efforts using measurement systems similar to other areas within the region ( i . e ., ACE Basin , Charleston ) will be used to compare and contrast the data we receive from local research and monitoring efforts . We will also draw comparisons to the 1975 Environmental Report of Kiawah Island to see how ecological health has changed over the half-century . To further our efforts , we will engage with external researchers to begin working on projects to establish monitoring efforts for each of the indicators we have identified . We look forward to pursuing these efforts to understand our ecological health and identify ways to further preserve and enhance our coastal ecosystem .
