Prom Date

Well, lookie here!

Little kid’s all grown up!

Got a date to the prom

Gonna wear a dress and a tux

Gonna make your hair real pretty

And your makeup be on fleek

Buy some great new shoes

Prom night will be your winning streak

But as you drag along shopping

Looking through dozens of gowns

You caress the peculiar fabric and ask

“What do I do with them now?”

Can you take your prom date to the mall?

Should you take them out to the street?

“Before we head out, I was wondering,

Should we grab something to eat?”

You can’t drive, you can’t dance

Neither one of you is dating

You can already envision this overhyped night

Drastically, tragically failing

But what if this prom date

Is not what they seem

They don’t exist in the realm of reality

But in the land of conjured up dreams

Wow. All that pressure.

For a measly this?

I guess you’ll look good in the pictures…

“It’s an opportunity you can’t miss”

But what if it’s a con

A further ploy to stir up anxiety

Another trick of the universe

A societal label
