We, as people, often set goals, come up with “to do lists”, make plans, and end up procrastinating instead of getting things done. We don’t achieve our goals most of the time because we just aren’t motivated enough; we end up being too lazy to work and would rather sit on the couch and watch a movie. We often forget about our long-term aims -what we want for the future- and get distracted with things that seem “fun” at the moment, and end up regretting it when it’s too late.

The first step to motivating yourself is keeping a positive mood. Thinking positively of things will give you a better initiative to actually getting the job done. Negative thinking will demotivate you and lead to procrastination. No matter what your aim is or what you’re working for, always think of the best possible outcome and results. So, if you’re working towards higher grades, think of how good it will feel when you’re sitting for an exam and you’re sure of your answers, or when your test results are those you wanted. If you’re trying to improve your physique, think about the moment when you know you have achieved your goals before working out or starting a diet and your will power will bloom.

The second step to motivating yourself is making sure you surround yourself with the right people. The people around you have a larger impact on you than you would think, therefore, surrounding yourself with well-motivated and positive people will gradually lead you to becoming more driven and develop the right habits. To add to this, positive people will support your goals and aims and will be there to praise and congratulate you when you achieve them.

The third step -and in my opinion the most important step- is being confident about yourself and your goals. If you don’t believe in yourself, who will? Keep reminding yourself that you are capable of anything and that you will be able to achieve your goals if you keep your mind to it; never doubt yourself along the way. If you’re not confident and don’t believe in yourself then there’s nothing to keep you going; you’ll just give up and once you surrender you’ll automatically fail at what you’re trying to do.

All in all, keeping yourself motivated can help you achieve anything, and I mean ANYTHING! Just keep that in mind and avoid excuses and complaints.
