CAMBRIDGE – New York American Water has begun the construction of a new 157,000-gallon water storage tank
atop Hospital Hill in Cambridge. The actual construction of the holding tank is being done by Statewide Aquastore,
Inc. of Syracuse, NY. On Wednesday afternoon, Richard Ruge, Manager of Field Operations for N.Y. American Water,
walked the site with this reporter explaining the procedures being used.
The storage tank will consist of nine 5-foot sections welded together atop a recently poured concrete box. In all, the
tank will rise 55 feet. Ruge said his company owns the site on which the tank is being built and has an easement to the valley below. He expects the construction of the tank and the new 12-inch pipeline will be completed in November and then
three water samples will be sent to the New York State Health Department for analysis. Once approval is received, the
new water system will begin flowing, improving water service reliability and fire protection for customers in Cambridge.
N.Y. American Water is investing $935,000 for the project.
