GREENWICH - Members of Boy Scout Troop 27, sponsored by Greenwich Elks Lodge #2223, traveled to New
York City during February vacation, where they spend several days camping at Pouch Scout Reservation located
on Staten Island, New York. While there, the Troop visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island National Park, the
Museum of Natural History and Hayden Planetarium, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum and attended the New Jersey
Devils vs. the New York Islanders Hockey game at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. On Saturday, the troop
hiked the Old New York Historical Trail. “The Old New York Historical Trail” is a very popular 4.87 mile walking
tour, rich in the history of New York and the entire country. Some of the stops included the South Street Seaport
Museum, Fraunces Tavern, Washington Square in Greenwich Village, Castle Clinton, and the Battery Park area
(which overlooks Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor), Wall Street - the financial capital of the
world, Chinatown, Little Italy, Federal Hall-site of George Washington’s inauguration, Trinity church and graveyard
and St. Paul’s Chapel. The boys enjoyed seeing New Year festivities in Chinatown and delicious food in Little Italy
while on their hike. Any boy who is 11 years of age or who has completed the 5th grade interested in the scouting
program should ask his parents to contact Jeff Conkey, Scoutmaster at 518-321-4926. The boys are pictured with a
very famous lady they met while on their trip!
