The design is a block from a traditional pattern called “Pieced Star” and was painted by HAYC3’s Aaron Buzzinski. Ever since HAYC3 announced the Hoosick CCS Robotics Team 5236 Makes it to Semi-Finals in Robotics Competition Barn Quilt Project, everyone’s been all-abuzz about it. People all over Hoosick are creating painted Barn Quilt blocks. Clubs, groups and organizations are making them. Everyone’s jumping onto the Hoosick Barn Quilt Project bandwagon. They may be large or small or somewhere in between, so keep your eyes peeled for them, as they will be everywhere in Hoosick. TROY – The first ever CCS FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) Team made it to the semi-finals of the regional competition held at RPI this past March. During the regional, Team 5236 from Cambridge was the first rookie team to pass inspection, placed second in autonomous scoring, placed in the top 15 for Offensive Power Rating, won the Rookie Inspiration Award and placed higher than several long standing teams who have been competing for more than 10 years. Students used SolidWorks, a professional computer aided design (CAD) software package to help design, test and fabricate the 120 pound robot which competed against 38 other robots built by teams who often had significantly more resources, experience and team members than Team 5236. The robot exhibited excellent handling and maneuverability on the playing field and was easily maintained and repaired throughout the 2 days of competition. The robot will be shown to other classes and grade levels in May to promote STEM careers and to hopefully encourage students to start robotics teams at the elementary (First Lego League FLL) and middle school levels (First Tech Challenge – FTC). Sully Gordon did an amazing job as team driver with Mr. White, CCS HS Technology Instructor, Mr. Hoffer and Mr. Winkler leading the build team. Several area businesses provided in kind services such as water jet cutting, machining and TIG welding. 37TH ANNUAL LIONS AUCTION & WHIPPLE CITY SOCIAL - PAGE 22 - Owners Seek $1.2 Million for Former Hospital Property - SEE PAGE 6 - PETITION SUPPORTS SALEM DISSOLUTION - PAGE 25 -
