PRESIDENT
F2F : Can you tell us a little about your personal / professional experiences that prompted you to become an active member of the SCBA and the YLD ?
SC : I joined the SCBA immediately after graduating law school in 2013 . I was looking to network with an eye towards finding employment . Jan Jung and Holly Lipps greeted me by name at my very first meeting , and they went out of their way to introduce me to others and help me feel comfortable at events . I am still very grateful for their kindness , and I have been an active SCBA member ever since .
F2F : What are some of your past SCBA experiences that you have found most fulfilling ?
SC : I have enjoyed serving on the YLD Board and , in particular , helping the programs come to life . We have developed some unique and fun ideas , like Jill Bowen ’ s Book / Media Club . The High School Mock Trial project takes a lot of work to organize and execute , but it is so much fun to work with the kids and the volunteer coaches . And I love the SCBA Holiday Party – everyone always has a great time with our professional “ family ” and it ’ s one of the most fun social events of the year .
F2F : Are you a collector of anything ?
SC : I collect animals ( although not really purposefully )! We have three dogs , two cats , two goats , a bunch of chickens and ducks , two turkeys , and some guinea fowl .
F2F : What movie have you watched multiple times ?
SC : “ Birds of Prey ( and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn )”. I really love it – it has an all-female cast of main characters and they kick ass ! There are all sorts of themes running throughout it – I especially like that the characters are self-sufficient and rely on their own strength to carry the day . Plus , there is a full range of women with unique personalities

represented in the film . You can ’ t beat Margo Robbie as Harley Quinn .
F2F : What was your most memorable vacation ?
SC : My husband and I took a wonderful trip to Hawaii in 2019 , just in time because we won ’ t be able to visit again now we have a little one ( Lucy is 16 months old ). It is such a beautiful place with a relaxed energy , a culture that is very respectful of nature and the environment , and some amazing food .
F2F : Who was your most memorable teacher ?
SC : Professor Zierdt at Stetson Law School . She was tough , concise , intelligent , demanding but not demeaning . She expected and received excellence from the students . I really leaned a lot about contract law from her — and she kept me on my toes !
F2F : What are some things most SCBA members don ’ t know about you ?
SC : I moved to Florida from England at the age of 10 and I still maintain dual citizenship . I have largely lost my British accent but it still appears involuntarily now and then , including sometimes when I really get into a court argument and can ’ t help it . My mother is Guyanese and my father is English . Also , my husband is from Honduras , so my family is definitely one of immigrants . Also , because it is a new development , many may not realize that I have recently started my own law firm , Castro Potts Law Firm , which I am very excited about .
F2F : What do you enjoy most about the SCBA ?
SC : I really enjoy the social interactions with my peers . We always have a great time together , and I always learn something new and interesting about my colleagues in the SCBA .
n Attention SCBA members : If you would like to be featured in a future edition of Face to Face , please send an email to scba @ sarasotabar . com .

PRESIDENT

Continued from Page 5 person by any means . It ’ s just a really fun day to get out with colleagues , eat some good barbecue , and blow off some steam .
Sarasota has grown so much over the past year with so many people moving to our great city . Do you think the SCBA will grow its member base as well ?
Our phenomenal executive director , Holly Lipps , has worked very hard to grow our membership to over 1,000 members . I hope new attorneys continue to join the SCBA as they move to Sarasota . I hope they see the importance of the SCBA and realize that joining would be extremely helpful to their career . I hope they view the SCBA as I do , which is that belonging is a given . I also hope that attorneys encourage their legal assistant , paralegals , and office administrators to join and participate . We want to get retired attorneys and out-ofstate attorneys who come here as snowbirds involved . We have a lot to offer every category of people that can become a member and they all have something to offer to our Association .
