A Guide to
Must-Attend Events – A Very Biased List
With temperatures barely leaving the triple digits ( at the time this was written ), it is hard to believe that summer is behind us , and we are making our way into fall . Our YLD year started last month with our kickoff at Beso in downtown Sarasota . We had the opportunity to catch up with old friends , make some new friends , and showcase our calendar of events . Don ’ t worry if you missed it ; we have a rundown for you !
Our membership committee , led by Cori Coser and Patrick Iyampillai , have set up our second Thursday socials and added a fun twist on our ever-popular “ Bagels with the Bench ” event in the form of an ice cream social . We will also host our annual holiday party in December jointly with Sarasota FAWL . More details on each of the events will be shared as they become available . The membership committee ’ s main goal this year is to help us create a welcoming and inclusive environment and provide opportunities for our lawyers to get to know one another and our bar better .
By popular demand , our mentoring committee , led by Warren Chin and Madeline Salamone , will be hosting another Table of 8 Dinner . The event sold out in the spring , so stay tuned for details on that and other great mentoring-focused events this year . In line with mentoring , The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division is hosting a free CLE event on November 2nd and our very own 12th Circuit Young Lawyers Division representative , Warren Chin , is chairing that event – registration is now open HERE . The event aims to provide young lawyers with information on lawyer wellness , starting and developing their own law firm , public service loan forgiveness , legislative updates , career development information , and so by Natasha Selvaraj , Esq . Berlin Patten Ebling , PLLC
much more . This event is entirely virtual and is open to young lawyers across the state . It should be an informative morning of CLEs !
The community outreach committee , led by Forest Sutton and Tyler Stall , will host the first “ Know Your Rights ” event for Pro Bono Week in October . This is an educational event where volunteer lawyers can speak to community members on various legal issues that frequently arise . More information is available HERE with opportunities for all lawyers to participate in the event during the week or on the weekend . The event will take place at the Selby Library . We hope to be able to provide many more opportunities for our members to engage with the community as we work through the year .
You can find information about all our events on our Instagram page or on the SCBA website , where you also have the option to register for events .
If you are interested in serving on one of our committees or know someone you might be , please let us know . The year is just kicking off , and plenty more will come ! Thank you to our YLD board for jumping right in and working so diligently to get this fantastic lineup of events ready to go early in the year .
