Hispanic Heritage Month is
the time period in which we recognize all of the culture , history , and contributions of Hispanic-Americans in general — specifically , those who trace their ancestry to Spain , Mexico , Central America , South America , and certain parts of the Caribbean .
Hispanic Heritage Month starts on September 15 , a day which marks the anniversary of the independence of five Latin American countries : Nicaragua , Honduras , Guatemala , Costa Rica , and El Savador . It continues throughout the month of September to mid-October and covers the time periods that other Latin countries celebrate their independence , like Mexico and Chile , celebrating their independence on September 16 and September 18 , respectively . States Supreme Court as the first Hispanic and Latina member of the Supreme Court in 2009 , and beyond , Hispanic heritage and achievements are deeply woven into the American fabric .
In honor of the many contributions and achievements of Hispanic Americans , we honor a few trailblazers in Florida who have led the way for many Hispanic Americans in the law : n Marian Borros : First Hispanic American female lawyer in Florida , admitted to the Florida Bar in 1926 .

Jose Alejandro Gonzalez Jr .: First Hispanic American male appointed as a Judge of the U . S . District Court , Southern District of Florida in 1978 .

Raoul G . Cantero III : First Hispanic American male appointed as a Justice of the
Florida Supreme Court in 2002 . n Professor Luz Nagle : First tenured Hispanic law professor at Stetson University College of Law , receiving tenure in 2004 . n The Honorable Maria Ruhl : First Hispanic American to be appointed as a Judge of the Twelfth Judicial
Circuit of Florida in 2019 .
To these trailblazers in the law , and countless others , we tip our hats and we honor their achievements and contributions to the Florida Bar and the legal profession as a whole .

Recipe of the Month
October is Hispanic Heritage Month , and
in honor and celebration of the rich Hispanic culture and delicious food , this month ’ s spotlight recipe is Arroz con Pollo .

Arroz Con Pollo
Ingredients :
4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves ½ teaspoon salt or all purpose seasoning salt ½ teaspoon ground black pepper ½ teaspoon paprika 3 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 green bell pepper , chopped ¾ cup chopped onion 1 ½ teaspoons minced garlic 1 cup long-grain white rice 1 ( 14.5 ounce ) can chicken broth ⅛ teaspoon saffron 1 ( 14.5 ounce ) can stewed tomatoes
Cooking Instructions :
1 . Cut chicken breasts into 1 inch pieces and season the chicken with ¼ teaspoon of salt , pepper , and paprika .
2 . Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat . Add chicken and cook until golden . Remove chicken and set aside .
3 . Cook the green pepper , onions , and garlic with oil in the skillet for 5 minutes . Add rice ; cook and stir until rice is opaque , 1 to 2 minutes . Stir in broth , saffron , and tomatoes . Stir in remaining salt , pepper , and paprika . Return to a boil . Cover , and simmer for 20 minutes .
3 . Return chicken to the skillet and cook to reheat . Stir in parsley and enjoy !
