BOOK REVIEWS COVID quarantine a good time to get in some reading

By MALLORY MORETTI , Esq . Berlin Patten Ebling , PLLC

Having a positive outlook on

life is the key to happiness , in my opinion . I always try to look for the bright side of things . One positive thing that I do have COVID to thank for is reminding me how much I love to read . When quarantine started in mid-March , I became an avid reader – reading about three to four books a month . Below are the three most recent books I read :
Behind Closed Doors by B . A . Paris
Behind Closed Doors might be one of my favorite books that I have ever read . I read it in a day and a half – it is a page turner , for sure ! I couldn ’ t stop thinking about it for several weeks afterwards . If you enjoy psychological thrillers , you must put this on your reading list . The story starts with a perfect couple , that is just too perfect . The husband , Jack , is a perfect social host , a female activist lawyer , and seems devoted to his gorgeous wife , Grace . He shows his compassionate side while being sympathetic to his wife ’ s problems with her sister who has down syndrome . To everyone Grace
Mallory Moretti , Esq . Berlin Patten Ebling , PLLC was rescued by Jack and truly found the perfect man , however ; it is very apparent that everything is not what it seems ….
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
I can ’ t count the number of times I have read this book . I try to read it once a year to remind myself of the principles discussed throughout the book . Everyone should read this book once in their lifetime . This book was released in 1936 and has sold more than 15 million copies and is a timeless best seller , packed with advice that has thrusted millions of people into successful careers , happy relationships , and a blissful life . How to Win Friends and Influence People claims to be the only book you need to lead you to success , and I do not disagree with it .
While reading this book , you will learn the six ways to make people like you , the twelve ways to win people to your way of thinking , and the nine ways to change people without arousing resentment . It truly is one of the best “ self-help ” books related to the key foundation of relationships between humans . Throughout the book , you will find yourself saying “ This makes so much sense , why didn ’ t I think of this before ?” It is a very quick and easy read and you will not be disappointed .
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
Another psychological thriller that I could not put down . Can you tell which genre of fiction is my favorite yet ? This book is super easy to read – very short chapters with each chapter discussing a different character ’ s point of view . Then She Was Gone is one of those books that grabs your attention right from the start . * Disclaimer : I will warn you that this book is very dark and very disturbing . All psychological thrillers are dark and a tad bit disturbing , but this one takes the cake for the darkest subjects .* Without giving too much away , Laurel ’ s teenage daughter , Ellie , goes missing fifteen years ago – she is a smart , clever girl . In time , Laurel meets a charming man and when she meets his teenage daughter , she cannot shake the feeling of how much she reminds Laurel of her beloved missing daughter . What is Laurel ’ s feeling about ? Is she losing her mind ? Did she forget to take her anti-psychotic medicine ? You will have to read to find out !
