The SCBA must be committed to equality and we all must put in the work to effectuate true change . free labor . Blacks were enslaved , beaten , sold , killed , families were separated , and forced to endure brutality for economic gain . Blacks had to fight for freedom and are still fighting to level the playing field . Once America stops running from its shameful history , and once white people truly start caring about the state of Black America , only then can we work together to put laws , policies , practices , and procedures in place for a better America . Locally , the SCBA can start by helping the CDI with its mission to diversify the community . The legal community can : n Start hiring people of diverse backgrounds and offer partnership tracks and n Work with law schools to recruit diverse candidates for internships and potential employment in Sarasota after graduation .

The students especially enjoyed an Etiquette Luncheon that was sponsored by Ted Eastmoore at the Field Club with a presentation by Judge Maryann Boehm on how to conduct yourself at a business luncheon . The students had opportunities to meet many judges , lawyers , businesspeople and other leaders in our community creating bonds and connection while broadening their experiences .

Continued from Page 17 we were successful in summoning , processing and seating a jury . So ... how did we accomplish that ? The clerk team summoned 150 prospective jurors . Thirty three people reported as summoned and the Court was able to conduct the jury trial .
For the foreseeable future , social distancing requirements will impact all aspects of jury selection and orientation . Stay tuned for updates on this important process of our justice system .
