Summer rules

This month marks the start of summer . You may recognize it by the longer days or by the faster commute , by finally getting to take that vacation , or by the overall slower pace of life . Summer is just different . In our house it means we can head to the beach in the evening and not worry about homework , or we can eat a late dinner and stay up a bit later than we usually would . Summer rules are different .

Summer has always been one of my favorite times of the year . Maybe it ’ s my “ Florida native ” blood , but the heat doesn ’ t really bother me . I ’ d much rather have warmer water than those cool winter waves . But much of my appreciation for summer has to do with memories of the summers when I was a kid . I grew up in Miami , and we spent summers in the Keys . We were fortunate that my mother could take me and my two siblings down to Islamorada for two months over the summer , with my father joining us from Friday through Monday .
We lived barefoot and in bathing suits , exploring the ocean , building forts , catching fish , making ‘ smores , and creating our own fun . There was no social

us for the first in-person general membership meeting on June 9 at the Sarasota Yacht Club . We are fortunate to have Dan Malasky , general counsel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , as the speaker for this meeting . Despite being a lifelong tortured Dolphins fan , it was hard not to get caught up in the excitement of this past season for the Bucs . Mr . Malasky will share his insight into how the Bucs navigated the season and won the Superbowl , despite all the obstacles . And while we ’ d love if he brought Tom Brady with him to Sarasota , there is a possibility Mr . Malasky brings the Lombardi Trophy with him . I ’ ve learned there is only one trophy ( yes , that trophy that was tossed between boats over Tampa Bay !), so it may be “ booked ” for that date , but we are keeping our fingers crossed . Hope to see you there !
