Summer rules |

This month marks the start of summer . You may recognize it by the longer days or by the faster commute , by finally getting to take that vacation , or by the overall slower pace of life . Summer is just different . In our house it means we can head to the beach in the evening and not worry about homework , or we can eat a late dinner and stay up a bit later than we usually would . Summer rules are different . Summer has always been one of my favorite times of the year . Maybe it ’ s my “ Florida native ” blood , but the heat doesn ’ t really bother me . I ’ d much rather have warmer water than those cool winter waves . But much of my appreciation for summer has to do with memories of the summers when I was a kid . I grew up in Miami , and we spent summers in the Keys . We were fortunate that my mother could take me and my two siblings down to Islamorada for two months over the summer , with my father joining us from Friday through Monday .
We lived barefoot and in bathing suits , exploring the ocean , building forts , catching fish , making ‘ smores , and creating our own fun . There was no social

media or Netflix in the 80 ’ s , so at night we watched the same few movies on repeat and played board games , passing time until the next day ’ s adventures . To this day the smell of mangroves and boat diesel brings me back to those days and how special they were . Those memories drive many of my decisions for my family .
I hope our members are able to enjoy this summer . It feels like it will be better than last summer under the pandemic rules , and we may have gained some perspective that encourages us to savor those long summer days and embrace those summer rules .
Speaking of rules , the CDC has lifted many of the restrictions that have kept us sidelined over the past year . We hope you will join
