FLORIDA COURTS E-FILING PORTAL

Understanding Standard Docket Code Descriptions and Text Box Requirements by Karen E . Rushing Clerk of Court and County Comptroller

To assist in facilitating the Court ’ s case management initiative , recent updates were made to standard docket descriptions at the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal (“ Portal ”). These updates mandate the use of a text box for certain motion and service document filings in circuit civil cases . For motions in circuit civil cases , filers must select the appropriate standard docket code description from options that are provided at the Portal . The following motions now require the use of a text box for additional context and information :
• Motion – Other
• Motion to Bifurcate
• Motion to Compel
• Motion to Consolidate
• Motion for Default by Clerk
• Motion for Default by Judge
• Motion for Leave
• Motion in Limine
• Motion to Modify
• Motion for New Trial / Rehearing
• Motion for Reconsideration
• Motion to Set Aside / Vacate
• Motion to Sever
• Motion to Strike
When filing these types of motions , the Portal will prompt filers to enter additional details in a text box . This allows filers to specify the nature or basis of the motion , providing clarity for the Court when reviewing these filings on their docket .
Service documents such as a subpoena , summons , acceptance or waiver of service and proof of publication – notice of action also have specific requirements based on the document type and who is being served . When selecting service on a party , filers are not required to use a text box for any of the listed , standard service documents . However , if the filing involves serving a subpoena on a non-party , the Portal requires the use of a text box to indicate the name of the non-party being served .
The addition of the text box requirements aims to ensure that the Court has the necessary information to review filings made in circuit civil cases . I appreciate the ongoing effort being made by filers to comply with the Clerk ’ s standard docket description initiative to support the Court . I will continue to keep filers apprised of the latest requirements . If you have a specific question , or require further assistance , please do not hesitate to contact me .
