Clerk’ s CORNER

Changes at the Portal

by Karen E. Rushing Clerk of Court and County Comptroller
The Board of Governors of the Florida Bar unanimously recommended several amendments to the Florida Rules of General Practice and Judicial Administration. The Florida Supreme adopted those recommendations in Supreme Court Opinion SC2023-1401, which were effective July 1, 2025.
One of those amendments was to Florida Rule of General Practice and Judicial Administration 2.525, which addresses filing. While this office always made every effort to accept filings upon the first submission and avoid placement in the correction queue, the amendments to this rule included the addition of express language obligating the Clerk to make filings a part of the official court file. Practically speaking, we can no longer place documents into a correction queue at the request of the filer unless it falls into one of the 7 listed reasons. Pursuant to Fl. R. Gen Prac. And J. Admin 2.525( f)( 1)( A-G).
1. Is filed after a case number is assigned and lacks a correct case number and the correct case number cannot be reliably and easily identified; 2. Lacks a case style or has the wrong case style; 3. Consists of multiple document filed as one document; 4. Consists of a multi-page document filed as separate documents; 5. Is a proposed order, unless it is filed under a notice of filing for purposes of preserving a record; 6. Is illegible, corrupt, or blank document; or 7. Is barred by order of court or is otherwise incapable of being filed in the clerk’ s case maintenance system.
Be sure to check the party names and case number that you are entering at the Portal and on the filing to ensure they all match and check the uploaded document to ensure it is one complete, viewable document.
