SCBA

President’ s

COLUMN

In the Home Stretch by Bryan Kessler, Esq. Berg & Kessler

It is hard to believe that 7 months have passed since I was installed as the 77th President of the SCBA. While so much has happened over that time, there is so much more to look forward to during the remaining 5 months of my presidency. On April 9, the Elder Law section will be hosting an Eldercaring Coordination Introduction & Overview. This is a virtual event that is free to all SCBA members.
That will be followed by the YLD Joint Networking Event between the MCBA and SCBA on Thursday, April 10.
The following week is the South County Division Spring Social at Capstan Financial Consulting Group on April 17, where a dueling piano concert will be on the green!
The much-anticipated return of the Administrative Professionals’ Day Trivia Luncheon on April 23 at the Sarasota Yacht Club will close out the month.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not encourage everyone to sign up for the SCBA Family Event: The Big Splash Bash at the North Port Aquatic Center on the evening of May 17. The event is free to members and their families and includes the use of the entire aquatic center, complete with lifeguards to supervise the children while the adults have fun and relax.
Aside from SCBA events, it is important to remember that tax filing season is upon us, with personal tax returns due on or before April 15, 2025. April also has several other notable events:( 1) National Sourdough Bread Day and April Fool’ s Day on April 1;( 2) World Autism Awareness Day on April 2;( 3) World Health Day on April 7;( 4) National Day of Silence on April 11;( 5) Grilled Cheese Day on April 12; and( 6) National Arbor Day on the last Friday in April. April is also when Floridians are reminded that summer is approaching.
In closing, I would like to make an announcement. On February 28, 2025, the South County Division hosted its 13th annual Sporting Clays event. Attorney Skip Berg has been the driving force behind the success of this event since its inception. His leadership and commitment to putting on this event have ensured the event’ s smooth operation and fostered a sense of camaraderie and community among our members. Under Skip’ s guidance, the Sporting Clays event has become a highlight of our association’ s calendar, bringing together members for a day of friendly competition and networking and ultimately serving as a platform for members to connect and strengthen professional relationships. This year, we had a record turnout, with over 140 people registering to attend the event.
In recognition of Skip’ s extraordinary contributions and unwavering dedication over the past 13 years, I am delighted to announce that the event will be renamed the“ Skip Berg Sporting Clays Shoot.” Renaming the event in Skip’ s honor is a testament to his tireless efforts and the lasting impact he has made on our association. I am grateful for his leadership and look forward to continuing this tradition under the new name, celebrating both the sport and the spirit of fellowship that Skip has so passionately championed. Please join me in expressing gratitude to Skip for his years of service and dedication and look forward to seeing everyone next year where we can all celebrate this new chapter in the event’ s history. I hope everyone has a healthy and safe April!
