Scott Westheimer beat Lorna E . Brown-Burton of Broward County in the race to become presidentelect of The Florida Bar . In results released March 22 , Westheimer received 11,986 votes to Brown- Burton ’ s 8,175 . Westheimer is the first Florida Bar president to be elected from the 12th Circuit . “ I am humbled and honored to be chosen for this responsibility in these truly transformational times ,” said Westheimer . “ It was a gratifying experience to travel the state and meet our members , hear their concerns , and find new ways to help them with their practices . I am especially grateful to everyone in the 12th Circuit for their support and with whom I have shared my work , community , and family during the last 25 years of practicing law .” Since 2002 , Scott has been a managing partner at Syprett Meshad , P . A ., which he joined in 1996 , and primarily represents plaintiffs in personal injury matters and handles some commercial litigation . Eager to put his ideas into action , Westheimer says , “ My platform and priorities remain the same . I want to find resources and tools to empower Florida Bar members with the business of law , the practice of law , and their health and wellness . I believe the more we can do to support our members and make them successful — the more it protects the public .” In his service on the Board of Governors , Westheimer has chaired the Program Evaluation Committee , Disciplinary Review Committee , Communications Committee ( twice ), and has served five years on the Executive Committee . In Bar leadership roles , he spearheaded efforts to help Bar members such as LegalFuel , ( the Bar ’ s free practice management and technology resource ) and the Tech Helpline . Westheimer is married to Tia , and they have two children , Ayla , 7 , and Arie , 21 months . Westheimer will be sworn in as president-elect at the Bar ’ s June Annual Convention when current President-Elect Gary Lesser takes the oath as president .
