What number will you be ?

Legal Aid of Manasota needs 12 volunteers to give 3 hours of time , 2 times a year , to assist with their Divorce Clinic and Doc Reviews .
Pro bono work does not have to involve a lengthy time commitment or undertaking a full case . The legal service organizations serving our community have need for attorneys to perform pro bono work consisting of small , discrete projects that involve just a couple hours of time .
Attorneys should also not be discouraged from branching into areas of the law where they may have an interest but not the experience . Legal aid organizations have training programs , mentorship programs and provide support to their volunteer attorneys . Also , while working under the purview of a legal aid organization , the organization ’ s malpractice insurance may apply .
DIVORCE CLINIC
Conducted via zoom and takes less than three hours of time . Prior to the clinic , LAMS ensures the eligibility of the participants and provides them with the appropriate packet of Supreme Court Family Law Forms for Dissolution of Marriage . During the clinic , the attorney walks the participants through the forms and explain how to fill them out . The ins and outs of family law are not explored . The focus is on understanding how to fill out the forms .
DOC REVIEWS
The “ Doc Review ” is also a less than 3 hour time commitment and occurs after the participant attends a clinic and completes the form packet . The purpose is for an attorney to answer any final questions and make sure the forms have been fully completed .
If you are willing to rise to the Challenge or want to observe a clinic before committing , contact Linda Harradine at Legal Aid of Manasota : ( 941 ) 366-0038 .
