In recogni- tion of the potentially destructive impact fraud may cause, a new service has been offered to quickly detect a fraudulent transfer of property.  In the state of Florida, by recording a CLERK’S fraudulent deed, scammers appear to own property, and have fraudulently CORNER rented or sold the property, without the knowledge of the actual owner.  To assist owners of property in Sara- sota a new service has been provided which requires little effort on the part of the property owner and is called, Property Fraud Alert Service.   Go to, click register for property fraud alerts, and follow the prompts. You will receive Karen E. an email alert whenever a document Rushing is recorded in Sarasota County’s Clerk of Court Official Record using the names you and County entered into our system, whether Comptroller personal or a business name. This service is provided at no cost to the user. By early notification of a fraud- ulent act, users of this service are able to quickly act to mitigate impact and take corrective steps, including working with law enforcement. Here are a few FAQ’s that help to explain how the property fraud alert program works: Q. Can I sign up and monitor filings even if I don’t own property? A. Yes, once you register, any name you choose you will receive an e-alert whenever a document is recorded into Sarasota County’s Official Records in that name. Q. How many subscription names can I enter? A. As many as you choose to monitor.    Q. My name or my client’s is very common. Will I receive notification that belongs to someone else?  A. It is possible to receive an e-alert that may belong to another person with the same name. The e-alert will provide you with a link to the document in Sarasota’s Official Records. You will be able to view the document, then react as necessary, or do nothing. Q. What is the timing of the notification from the point the document is recorded? A. Notifications are sent within 48 hours of the docu- ment being recorded. Q. Is any special hardware or software needed to sign up?  A.
